We need to pick a date and time between July 17 and July 19 and a location.

Someone had to start this ball rolling.

I'm open to any day that weekend. I prefer within 10 miles of downtown so I can easily bike. I'm also vegan but most places are fine by that.

As of right now, I'm in. Lord knows what my situation might look like by July, though.

Since DA already expressed his scheduling concerns, I'd suggest we plan for the 17th. Being a Friday, it makes it a bit of a task to get down from Muncie, but not impossible.

As for location...I'd prefer something toward the north side of town. How far north is 10 miles from downtown? Broad Ripple?

Thanks, CH! My "maybe" is actually "definitely attending" if it's on the 17th, but I'll be out of town the 18th and 19th.

Ok, Friday July 17th it is. Broad Ripple is great. Any suggestions where? What time? Dinner? 7:30pm?

The last (and only) Indy meetup was at the Brewpub. I'm good with that, but I'm good with anywhere as long as good beer can be had. And is relatively affordable. I'm a struggling artist, afterall. LOL.

The Brewpub sounds great to me. Is it smoky? 18/21+? Is that a concern for anyone? I'll leave this open for a few days in case anyone else happens by.

How many Indianapolis users are there?

Broad Ripple Brewpub website. The "About" page says children are welcome (which per the city's smoking ban implies non-smoking, except for the outdoor seating IIRC).

I'm no expert in such things, but there's a few items on the menu specifically listed as vegan (and a some others that look like they might be), and I found some reviews claiming that it's vegan-friendly. (1 2 3)

Awesome. Does 7:30 work for you two?
posted by ChrisHartley at 2:21 PM on May 12, 2009

That's fine with me (or pretty much any other time, too).
posted by DevilsAdvocate at 3:23 PM on May 12, 2009

I know the Brewpub has a passable veggie-burger, beyond that, I'm not sure. On the other end of the spectrum is the Scotch Egg. Something for everyone.

7:30 works for me. Though, I'll probably be down there much earlier.

You will definitely need to reserve a block of tables ahead of time, once we get a better idea of attendees. At the last meetup, I think we had a grand total of 8 people, maybe.

I'm probably going to be in Boston that weekend, so I'm already a "maybe" for that meetup. But if I don't end up going there, I'll definitely be at the Brewpub on the 17th.

Well, I'd hate to wish bad luck on anyone, but I hope Boston falls-through and we see you at the pub...
posted by Thorzdad at 9:23 AM on May 13, 2009

Ooh, I'm definitely in. Especially since it's less than a mile from home and work.

I've been to the brew pub a couple times. It's not smoky (in fact I believe it's non-smoking) and I never got carded for drinks (and I'm young, look younger, and usually do get carded most places). As far as the food goes there is some veggie fare. I think I had falafel the one time I ate there.

Hello all. :) I'm most a mefi lurker, but I'm nearby and may pop in. What's the parking situation like?
posted by notnamed at 8:48 AM on May 24, 2009

Hi notnamed! It would be great if you came. I believe there is ample street level parking around the Brew Pub but someone with a car may be able to give additional assurances.

A Friday night anywhere in Broad Ripple is a parking adventure. There's a lot of on-street parking around the Brewpub. You might have to walk a block or so, though.

Just realized that the 17th is a jazz festival type thing here in Lafayette that I've long since committed to going to, so unless that is canceled due to rain or somesuch, it is less likely I'll be there this time. Thanks for the cordial welcome and information though. :)

I may be able to attend; my brother and his girlfriend will be around sometime in July and I'm not sure when.

Bring them! Please!

So...still just 4 of us attending?

I work second shift at Uncle Eli's but I might be able to take a vacation day that evening. I'll mark myself down as a "maybe" and let y'all know if that turns into a definite.

Turns out I can't read a calendar, and that 17 is not the same number as 18 - so I'm in :)

My girlfriend's coming but she probably won't have internet access at all this week. She's user/lurker shortbus. I'm adding her as a guest.

Is anyone going to be bringing laptops for any sort of cross-meetup IRCing or something along those lines?
posted by notnamed at 12:13 PM on July 13, 2009

It is too bad the Markov filter is down again, it would be great to record a Story Corp style markov filter reading.

"Hi I'm Chris Hartley and ..... (something about Page Plus and small cabins if I recall correctly)"

I can bring my laptop. Does the brew pub have wifi? I guess since I'm the host I should find this kind of thing out.
posted by ChrisHartley at 5:42 PM on July 13, 2009

I have no idea if BrewPub has wi-fi. I can't imagine that it doesn't. Everything in BroadRipple seems to have wi-fi.

Chris...Have you called BrewPub to try and reserve a couple of tables? Last time, they also posted some "MeFi" note on the blackboard by the hostess station.
posted by Thorzdad at 8:37 AM on July 15, 2009

They said they can't do a reservation but that we wouldn't have any problems pulling a couple of tables together, unless something unusual happens.

I'm planning on bringing some kind of small printed sign just because I'll probably be the first one there. I'll let the hostess know that I am the Metafilter Internet Meetup. I might have to drink a little first before I can tell someone that.

We can move the party to your office, Pope.

We got $50! Matt sent me $50 via paypal. Split 7 ways that's $7.14 each. How should we do this? Mefimail me your paypal address and I can forward you your money, or subtract $0.44 and I'll mail you a check, or I can hold on to your share until the next meetup and give it to you then. Or?
