Now that we've settled on Saturday, where should we rock the party? We'll take suggestions until Wednesday.

I like the idea of someplace with outside seating. Problem is, I'm not sure many places have outside seating that can be reserved...

But, I will repeat my over-eager comment in the other thread:

First thing that comes to mind is Rock Bottom (State and Grand), which has a roof deck (not sure if it can be reserved for parties.) I believe Lizzy McNeil's was also discussed the other night.

If we're not going with outside, then more options open up. I have an alumni connection to a managing partner of Harry Caray's, not sure if that will get us anywhere but it's something I'm willing to attempt to exploit. Miller's Pub might be another option, not sure if they have private rooms.

I'm going to fling out one totally bizarre idea: would anyone be interested in a MeFi block party? The neighbors have already given me clearance to block off the street and have offered their grills and tents and such, plus I have a giant inflatable outdoor screen for geeking out. The only problem is that I'm all the way up in Edgewater-- which is decidedly Non-Loop. That said, it's right off the #22 bus and just a couple blocks west of the red line, so it's readily accessible by public transit. There's plenty of parking, too.

Anyway, I recognize I'm breaking my own rule about location, but it was such a crazy idea I figured I'd throw it in the mix.

OMG. You know I'd totally be up for that.

Also, for those that don't know, eamon's neighbors are awesome.

I like the block party idea - hanging out and grilling sounds like much fun. The DIY-aspect is attractive. Of course, I'm also on the northside, so I'm biased in favor the location.

Failing that, I would second Rock Bottom. Good local brewpub.

The Chicago Center for Inquiry folks often meet at the Exchequer, to which I've never been, but it seems to have good reviews.

I'm also in favor of the block party idea (assuming I'm here). Could be a lot of fun.

I think you can reserve at least parts of the roof of Rock Bottom. My old company went there after one of our outings and they had tables set aside for us and a buffet set up. But a block party BBQ would be a lot cooler, I think.

A block party sounds just fine.

I would enthusiastically support eamondaly's block for this event, were I to be attending, but I'm not. So I'll just continue to be bitter.

eamon - I was thinking of a home bbq type of thing, and since your parties can be seen from space, I was actually thinking of you hosting. But I thought it would be out of line to volunteer you as host. Bust since you suggested it - I AM ALL FOR THAT!!!!! I'll commit early to whatever help is needed to make it work.

Do you have a backup plan in case of bad weather?
posted by IndigoRain at 7:40 PM on May 15, 2009

We have the house obviously, but also a bunch of tents and such.

100% behind the block party idea.

Anyone from the Loop or the 'burbs want to weigh in? This would affect y'all the most, so I really want to make sure your voices are heard. If you're not on-board, I won't be offended!

I'm up in the northern burbs and the block party idea sounds cool to me. I might just drive rather than deal with public transportation.

Block party sounds lovely. I'm in Hyde Park (Very Far Away) but I can drive up.

Loop dweller here. A block party sounds like a great idea and since you're close to the red line, convenient also.

I'm suburban and will pretty much be driving to wherever we have it. Well worth the drive.

Given my car accident, it would depend on whether I have a car by then or if I can catch a ride with another MeFite from NW Indiana.

Oh, this is for July ... wow, I was thinking to myself "Damn, that's some short notice there ... did this party already happen?" ::facepalm:: ^_^

Holy Crap, that would be awesome.

Alas, that weekend, I'm going to be in the middle of nowhere doing dangerous things. But I'll have beer, and I'll be thinking of TCC*

Thanks for volunteering your homebase, beardman! I was going to do the same, but I think your location is probably waaaay more accessible/desirable. I'd be glad to lend a hand to any A/V support for the party...

This sounds great. I'm pretty sure I can make it and do some cooking, at least bake a cake.
