Leeds Party Planning Thread

Party on! We need to pick a date and time between July 17 and July 19 and a location.

Hello! Leeds Metafilter 10th Anniversary Shenanigans proposed. So far we have two attendees (myself and seanyboy) and a preference for the 18th as a date, which clashes with Birmingham but not London, fyi.

Do we want to do eating and drinking? Just drinking or something completely different?

Apparently we get a party fund from the hive! Party hats! Other paraphernalia! Free stuff! Plates of beans all round!

Put your thoughts into words and send them back with typing!

July 18th sounds good.

I generally prefer cafes to pubs, but I'm not too bothered.

Here are my thoughts sent back through typed words!

Unfortunately I will be in VT for that weekend and it looks like there aren't any scheduled parties in Vermont.

Have fun all maybe we could do something a differnt time not for a 10th.

I'm up for this. I prefer the Saturday, but I'm easy.

Sorry you can't make it koolkat.

OK, we have a small posse. Friends are of course also welcome.

I shall have a think about a venue for drinking and conversation, which combines the savior faire of a cafe and the real ale and quality lager purchasing potential of a pub. I am also thinking it might be nice to sit outside, weather permitting.

Options will include, sitting somewhere along the river, in a ginnel (apparently the word loiners comes from the alleys up which proto-Leeds-folk lived in the city), out the back of the Common Place or the back of the market with all the kids sniffing nail-polish remover. On second thoughts, perhaps not that last one.

That is assuming that the city centre is the easiest place for us all to get to.

Suggestions welcome.

Also, photos of Leeds in 1954 and 2004! Big trousers! Urchins! Power stations that are now nature reserves!

Oh, and another thought would be, do we (i.e. seanyboy) want to set up some way to contact other simultaneous meetups on the night via the series of tubes and say hello, share photos and napkin based shout-outs. This would require somewhere with wi-fi and some kind of portable device that would take photos and interface with the tube side.

Just throwing the idea out there!

I'd be well up for this, if I hadn't moved to france.

Thanks for the invite - Leeds is quite a schlep for me though, and my Social Secretary tells me we have prior family commitments. But have a reet good 'un!

Admin reminder: this meetup is going to be removed from the site tomorrow because the deadline for confirming the date, time, and location has passed. Please contact us with the details if you'd like to move this meetup from planning to scheduled.

Ach, that would suck if it didn't happen. I'd offer to help organise, but I don't know Leeds at all, so can't make suggestions about venues and stuff. But I'm around the area over that weekend, and would get on a train and attend if it was on.

I will be out of Leeds until 6ish on Saturday evening, so I am thinking we could meet for food at the start of the night, around 6.30 or 7pm.

I would suggest Japanese (ish) food from Fuji Hiro (no booking, Formica authenticity, sub-£10 mains) or Little Tokyo (wooden tables, fish ponds, sub-£15 mains and much more choice on the menu). These places serve lager. The other option would be Iranian (relaxed service, freshly cooked flat bread, no alcohol). The Iranian place is over the road from a real ale pub, which is full of character(s).

Whitelocks and The Angel are other real ale pubs in alleys in town which have a bit of authenticity to them, they are equidistant from the two Japanese places.

Alternatively we could meet for drinks, which would be more like 7.30-8pm, at a drinking establishment.

I am aware that people are travelling to get to Leeds, so an earlier time may be better for people.

I'll be there. Oddly, the only other time I have ever eaten dinner in Leeds, it was at Little Tokyo (unless there are a proliferation of wooden-tabled, be-fishponded, multiple menu-choiced Japanese restaurants in the city). Either Japanese or Iranian sounds cool to me, so call what suits everyone else best. And yeah, I'll be one of those who has to be getting on a train later on, but I can likely stay while ten-ish.
