I went by around 7:30pm and went through the entire place twice. I didn't see any plausible looking groups, or anyone who asked if I was looking for a Metafilter gathering.

Well a fine time was had, begorrah, at the meetup. Meetup MeFi'ers proved themselves worthy of the name by braving the weather, negotiating the road construction, and then finding the way to the secret Abbey at the back of the restaurant!
The mascot election: Robbie (Red Robot Party) ran against Mr Spud (Potato Head Party). Mr Spud's campaign manager, BBBonanza put in some starchy words on his candidate's behalf. Robbie burped a marble from his abdomen. And the result of the vote....a tie! Both were declared victorious.
The meetup lasted until about 11:00. Four hours of thread chat, drinks, appetizers and general merriment.
Only regret: not being able to get a picture of the nuns.
