We like to party

Final Details....

This Saturday, 8pm - Midnight at the Columns, on St. Charles Ave.

Cover is $30, which includes an open bar, beautiful private room, and some delicious snacks. The hotel is small - as soon as you walk in, you'll see the "private party" sign on the left, and probably me or ColdChef at the door.

If you're taking the streetcar, the stop is at Peniston (yes that's an actual street name, and yes, I snicker every time I hear it).
- If you're coming from downtown, Louisiana is the last major street you'll cross, and then it's about 4 streets down.
- If you're coming from uptown, Napoleon is the last major street you'll cross, and then it's about 6 streets down.

If you're taking a cab, I suggest using United Cabs (504) 522-9771. Just go ahead and program that number into your cell phone, or better yet tattoo it on your arm.

If you're driving, they have free valet, just remember to have a few bucks for tips.

ColdChef will supply nametags, sharpies, and note cards. If you're on twitter, follow his official twitter feed of the event. Feel free to post tweets and pix with the hashtag #mefi10

If any of you are photogs and wnat to bring your super-awesome DSLR to play paparazzo, be my guest!

Any questions?

That bears repeating.

Should we get dinner before coming to the hotel? Or is the expectation we'll have enough snacks/booze to count as a light dinner?

The booze will be bountiful, but the food will be light. Eat before. Or, you know...after if you plan on vomiting.

pppssstt: THE official meetup photographer, da shiv will be in that new orleans number. by no means do i want to discourage others from working their magic, but it appears that we have the paparazzo to beat all paparazzi.

Perfectly suitable. I'll be wearing an antebellum ball gown, but you do what you'd like.

Do they have WiFi there? Can we bring our laptop and plug it in? Or is that just too much?

There is WiFi there. Feel free to bring your laptops.

My +1 is now tvgraphicsguy - I finally made my husband sign up in time for the party.

Here's the flickr group for the meetup. Feel free to add pictures. And don't forget to add tags.

msconduct: "hmmm ... can we bring food to the thing at the columns?"

I don't think that would be appropriate.

just trying to figure out how to get my $30 worth. not everyone drinks, you know.
posted by msconduct at 10:37 AM on July 16, 2009

Don't worry, msconduct, I'll be sure to give you $30 worth of stories that will scandalize you and everyone you know. Or if the music is good, $30 worth of dances. Hell, food and drinks aside, it's worth twice that much to meet some of you folks in person finally.

I once danced to Madonna's "Vogue" with a pineapple tied to my head. Will that help?

If you feel that you need to get $30 worth of "entertainment", just ask for the "mefi meetup" with the "happy ending."

so...I'm not old enough to imbibe. is the bill still $30?

The cover charge encompasses more than just alcoholic drinks. It includes food, tips for the staff, taxes, and room rental deposit. As you can see from the other threads, there will be other folks attending who will not be drinking alcoholic beverages, but who intend to pay the full cover.

Having said that, I don't want the cover charge to be something that keeps you away. Pay what you think is fair (I hope I don't regret typing that) and perhaps the generosity of others will make up the difference.

Also: get off my lawn, you kids.

Great now I've gotta figure out something else to wear. Thanks .

I have no idea if anyone down there is reading this at this moment, but -- this is EmpressCallipygos waving hello to y'all from New York. (kiss)

Consider this my shout-out to ColdChef, RadioAmy, and all others down there. We're all here in a loft where a live band is jamming with Stones towns sans a drm section...I may need a nother drink to do this, but I may ask them if they know Dusty Springfield.
