Let's pick a date and venue! The party is planned between July 17 and July 19.

Saturday (18th) is a good day for me. It takes me close to 5 hrs to get to DF from Xalapa.

Count me in!

I'm down!

I'll plan on it as well, of course -- at least as much as I can plan anything two months in advance.

While I have pitifully failed to show up at the two previous meetups, I'll try my best to be at this one. Roma/Condesa area is perfect for me, and I have the impression most other Mexico City mefiers are around here too, or am I mistaken?

I second Roma/Condesa!
posted by Cobalt at 6:57 PM on May 10, 2009

Yeah, I think most chilango mefites live near Roma/Condesa.

Do you have any specific venue suggestions?

Are we thinking of going to a bar or other public place, or are we thinking of having a private party?
posted by Cobalt at 9:39 PM on May 11, 2009

I'd rather do it in a public place (unless one of you has an awesome huge narco-house with tigers, pools and heliport). I think it's more welcoming for anybody who didn't go to the first meetup.
posted by clearlydemon at 10:04 AM on May 12, 2009

Yeah I vote for a public place as well. BEsides it's would be easier to locate. I liked the Condesa area, but I've been there only once. The Bipolar at Coyoacan ain't bad either.
posted by dhruva at 10:09 AM on May 12, 2009

I asked my uncle Chapo if we could use his pad, and he says it's OK.

I suggest Groove, in Condesa, Citlaltepetl 9 between Ozuluama and Amsterdam. It's fairly large, lounge-style with sofas, they have a full bar and also a kitchen (Argentinian fusion seafood stuff and pizza, good, rather cheap, and varied), and they accept reservations.
posted by Joakim Ziegler at 12:01 PM on May 13, 2009

I don't know Groove, but I do like sofas.
posted by donpedro at 11:39 AM on May 15, 2009

Wow donpedro, when you said you'd come to Mexico and make a lot of friends you weren't kidding.

Joakim, Groove sounds like a great option. Let's give it a few more days to see if there are other venue suggestions.

dhruva, the Bipolar sounds good too. However, Condesa is more central for everybody. If the zone is not that convenient for you we can work something out.
posted by clearlydemon at 3:40 PM on May 15, 2009

Groove sounds groovy to me.
posted by Cobalt at 6:28 PM on May 15, 2009

Groove's ok by me as well.
posted by dhruva at 9:09 AM on May 18, 2009

I'll put one more suggestion out there for the sake of choice. I was just at a new cantina on Nuevo Leon y Campeche called La Capital. Really enjoyed the food (upscale cantina, ceviches, etc.) and atmosphere. Nice space with abnormally high ceilings, parking under the building, outdoor area with tables in back, but seating is traditional cantina (no couches).
posted by lovejones at 12:17 PM on May 24, 2009

lovejones: Fine with me, really, although I kind of hated the architecture. But the other features sound nice. Both options are very local to me, so I'm not going to complain about either.
posted by Joakim Ziegler at 3:50 PM on May 27, 2009

So unless anybody wants to toss out more options ... cleary-d, why don't you pick one and sidebar it so you can see about getting some cash money from No. 1. I'm fine with whatever.
posted by donpedro at 4:16 PM on June 1, 2009

Sorry for the delay. It's a tough call, La Capital looks really interesting, but there are more positive comments for Groove, so let's go for that option. Let's sidebar this thing.

Should we do this around 6pm? Or later? dhruva is staying far from la Condesa, so let's consider that.
posted by clearlydemon at 10:08 PM on June 7, 2009

Ok, it's official but I had to fill the time field, so I put 6pm. But maybe it's too early... let me know what you think.
posted by clearlydemon at 10:19 PM on June 7, 2009

Doesn't make any difference to me. What works for you, dhruva?
posted by donpedro at 11:44 AM on June 9, 2009

A good time to arrive at Groove would be around 8-9-ish, but it's open all day.
posted by Joakim Ziegler at 5:27 PM on June 9, 2009

Clearlydemon, as organizer you should make sure you see this thread.
posted by donpedro at 8:47 PM on June 25, 2009

Thanks donpedro, I hadn't seen it.
posted by clearlydemon at 10:46 AM on June 26, 2009

Following Joakim's suggestion, let's do this at 8:30 PM. I emailed the mods so they change it in the meetup information too.
posted by clearlydemon at 5:44 PM on June 26, 2009

So, are we on for Saturday?
posted by Cobalt at 11:11 AM on July 15, 2009

I recently had an event surface that, for professional reasons, I absolutely must attend. But it's just a matter of how to shoehorn two things into a single night. I'll be there, assuming others still interested.
posted by donpedro at 4:11 PM on July 15, 2009

donpedro: boo! hope you can make it.

I'm in and we have a reservation. I won't be baking cupcakes or printing t-shirts though, but I can bring a macbook if anybody wants to chat via webcam with other meetups. Which in my opinion sounds kind of meh, but who knows.
posted by clearlydemon at 4:56 PM on July 15, 2009

Oh I'll be there without a doubt. I just have to figure out whether I go to the meetup first and then show up late and tipsy to say goodbye and good luck to my departing jefe, or vice versa.
posted by donpedro at 5:03 PM on July 15, 2009

P.S. We should get MetaFilter swine flu masks made up. Perfect color!
posted by donpedro at 5:14 PM on July 15, 2009

I, for one, would prefer a late-arriving donpedro than a early-leaving donpedro.
posted by Cobalt at 3:05 AM on July 16, 2009

I'll be there, +1. Webcam sounds a little boring, but we definitely need lots of photos. Especially as people get drunk.
posted by Joakim Ziegler at 8:13 PM on July 16, 2009

Hey! I resemble that!
posted by Cobalt at 9:14 PM on July 16, 2009

I'm going to be late-arriving as well, unfortunately. But I will be buying a round of astronautas as soon as I get there.
posted by lovejones at 12:06 PM on July 17, 2009

Will there be any signs indicating which is the MeFi table? I've done my share of asking random people if they were from the internet, and I'm not keen on repeating that experience. Especially in mangled spanish.
posted by dhruva at 12:09 PM on July 17, 2009

Good idea dhruva, I'll make signs. The reservation is under this guy's name.
posted by clearlydemon at 1:30 PM on July 17, 2009

see ya'll in a little bit!
posted by Locochona at 3:55 PM on July 18, 2009

I'll be there on the late side. See you soon.
posted by donpedro at 4:47 PM on July 18, 2009

Good time last night everyone!

Most coolsome, yes.

It was fun meeting everybody, I had a great time!
posted by clearlydemon at 11:04 AM on July 20, 2009

Yes it was. I'm glad I made the trip up north. Did anyone upload pictures? Were there pictures?
posted by dhruva at 9:00 PM on July 20, 2009

I have some pictures, just haven't gotten around to uploading yet. Will let you know.
