Sign up here for the anniversary meet-up for West Midlands mefites. Date and time to be decided once London is finalised, as I imagine many of us will want to go to both.

Any preferences as to venue? The Welly does decent real ale and is handy for the station, or if money’s no object, there’s always the Moët bar…

Hah, I memailed srboisvert last night suggesting the Wellington. I fully support your proposal!

I'd be up for a pint or three at the Wellington. I'm guessing it will be a small event so I don't think there is much more to organizing than picking a date.

The Wellington is a fantastic choice. Central location, 18 beer engines, and a good selection of whiskies and bottled Belgian if anyone isn't a real ale or cider fan.

Mark me down as a maybe!

There's the tiniest chance I could swing by this on my way to the wedding I'm at that evening. Depends how early you're starting really. It is pretty unlikely though, so don't make any changes to accommodate me!

Seeing as I'm in Oxford & therefore equidistant between both Brum and London I may make one or t'other. Both seems unlikely!

The Wellington look like a good location to me; consider yourself pencilled into my calendar.

Here is a link to the Wellington's website, should that be of use to anyone. Note that the beer board is liable to change several times a day.

You know, I might try make it to this one. Add me as a maybe.

So... should we try to pick a date now, or leave it until much closer to the weekend itself?

I'm happy enough to do any of the days, but Sunday is probably the least preferable on the basis of train schedules if nothing else.

Count me as a strong maybe.

Okay let's firm this up by saying if you are definite, or a maybe and when you are willing to go. If there are times you can't go say so and can try and we can try and do a utilitarian maximization thing.

I'm a definite for any time and any date but I am partial to a Saturday or Sunday afternoon (I am not that big a fan of the City on the weekend evenings). I have no clue for how crowded the wellington gets not having ever been there during busy times.

Friday 17th evening - definite
Saturday 18th afternoon - definite*
Saturday 18th evening - definite
Sunday 19th afternoon - definite*
Sunday 19th evening - definite

*preferred

If I can do any time, it would be Saturday afternoon.

I can probably make any time, but I agree with srboisvert that an afternoon is best.

Saturday afternoon sounds great to me.

Saturday or Sunday afternoon or evening suit me.

I have no clue for how crowded the wellington gets not having ever been there during busy times.

Early evening on Fridays are the only time I've seen it annoyingly rammed. (At five on Fridays it fills up with office workers from the nearby financial district and gets quite sardines-y. It starts calming down again from around seven as they move on elsewhere.)

Looks like we have a rough consensus for Saturday afternoon, yes?

Saturday afternoon sounds good to me as well. Sunday is very much non-ideal, due to the horrendous public transport provision.

Count me in as a maybe as well, though I'm scared of meetups and particularly of cameras :/
posted by altolinguistic at 4:25 AM on May 29, 2009

So is that a decided-upon date and venue, or what?
posted by Mike1024 at 11:26 AM on May 30, 2009

Yeah I think so. Maybe the_latin_mouse could set up a 'scheduled' event?
posted by knapah at 2:16 PM on May 30, 2009

Done!
posted by the latin mouse at 4:19 PM on May 30, 2009

OK. Now that the initial when and where is sorted let's figure out where to go eat after!
posted by srboisvert at 7:16 AM on May 31, 2009

Agreed, I'll happily defer to the local mefites on that decision, though it would be good to keep costs down.

See y'all tomorrow.

Hi folks, I should hopefully be able to make it also. Looking forwards to meeting you all!
posted by jzed at 11:02 AM on July 17, 2009

Yup, I'm looking forward to it too. Brother Dysk is probably not coming in the end by the way, but he hasn't had the chance to update his 'attendance' thing.

See you all around 3 tomorrow then. I have dark hair and have a slightly ginger beard, and I'm 23, assuming that helps identify me tomorrow. Don't know if I'll be wearing anything distinctive yet. See you tomorrow.

I'm still planning to pop in with MrsMustard. We'll be en route to a wedding reception, so should stick out like the proverbial sore thumbs in the Wellington!

incidentally, i look like this, if anyone sees me wandering around looking lost please grab me!

Well that was fun. I got home eventually, rather full of food and certainly feeling the alcohol. Good to see you all.

It was nice to meet you all! Have added a pic to the flickr metafilter group pool.
