Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Planning Thread

We need to pick a date and time between July 17 and July 19 and a location.

We can do a South Florida meetup. We have several options to pick from and can pick one after we have a count of people interested.

Feel free to nominate a spot that fits our need!

I had commented in the Orlando, FL meetup discussion, but I would absolutely prefer going to a meetup I could reach in under an hour!

Unfortunately I have no nominations for spots at this time, but if one comes to me I'll bring it up. I don't have any date requirements, but I suppose Saturday would be at the top of the list.

There are tons of places in South Fla, so we can do any of those spots. Even Palm Beach, just need to get a few more going.

Fairchild Tropical Gardens? PRL in Hollywood? Brew Urban Cafe in Las Olas? Someplace in the Gables, Books and Books, perhaps?

I'm free all day on the 18th, but only after 6pm on the 17th and 19th.

Email is in my profile, in case I'm not logging on to Metafilter much in the coming weeks (I'm busier than usual).

All these places are doable...books and books in gables is perfect.

We can go with spot unless we have any other suggestions. Would love a few more people though!

Can't say for sure until the event happens. Any suggestions for a time/day? Could just be that people don't want to "be in charge" and are waiting to see how it gets planned.

Not familiar with the area. Coming across from Fort Myers if able to. Personal pref. would be in the Palm/West Palm area just to facilitate MY trip. Good luck with the planning and much success.

I think the issue with West Palm is nobody familiar with that area is speaking up to suggest a venue with certainty that it would be a good fit.

I can absolutely say that Books and Books is a great place (although sometimes food service in the courtyard area is...lax.) to meet. I've read there (lip service), attended readings there, and seen live music there. Fabulous venue, cozy.

what goes on in a meetup? Do we just talk metafilter stuff? Does this place serve beer or something celebratory that would help people relax around strangers? Sorry lots of questions but I just came upon the thread and it sounds interesting but on the fence since I don't know anyone heh.

btw If people want to drink beer, right around the corner from books and books there's lots of places to go. I'd recommend The Pub because it has great beer selection.

I'm going to be vacationing in Florida ... Key West b/w 13-16, Miami b/w 16-19.

My travel partner will laugh at my Mefi geekery, but I don't care... I do hope to "coincidentally" take us by whereever you fair Miamians are meeting! :)

I am under the impression that Books and Books has wine. If my impression is wrong, we can move on to The Pub.

Why? Because I'm already used to it from my having a presence on TripAdvisor. And besides...this is MeFi! I mean, like snorkeling? Cuban food? Let me know!
