Okay, so most of the food and drink is covered. Let's talk wacky fun time!

The rough outline for the day is:

- Food at 6-ish
- Talent show at 7-ish
- Movie and/or video games at 8-ish
- Block party wrap up at 11-ish
- Karaoke at Cafe Bong immediately to follow

Kaz and I will run the talent show. For movies and/or video games, I've got a giant inflatable screen and projector unit. Any requests? Any other entertainment suggestions?

Oh jesus, a talent show and karaoke? This sounds like a nightmare scenario for an introvert. Y'all are going to have to get me really, really drunk.

Also, I will give $100 to anyone who gets my husband to sing karaoke. It can't be a group sing-along, either.

Shall we make the Most Favorited Chicago Post competition official? We could combine announcement of the winner with the Talent Show results.

Not sure how it would look on a giant screen, but I setup a playlist of yooouuutuuube music videos to run on my HDTV for a party recently. That's more of background music thing then a let's all stare at the screen for an hour thing though.

Iridic: we're working out the details as we speak. There'll be an announcement on Monday.

I should add that you don't have to participate in anything. I suspect that this group will have more than its fair share of zany talents to cover anyone nervous about joining in.

Yeah, If all you want to do is laugh at the doofus extroverts making fools of themselves, that's all you have to do. With 37 confirmed attendees, 50 maybes, plus other neighbors and hangers-on, there will be plenty of opportunities to either hide from or garner as much attention as you wish.

We discussed the possibility of a movie like Labyrinth, something that's fun but doesn't require a lot of attention/staring at the screen. burnmp3s idea of a playlist of videos or something is good too. Guitar Hero, Super Mario Kart, Wii-anything type video games might also be fun. Personally, I don't have any of that equipment so someone would have to offer theirs.

What about internet/webcam/some kind of real-time connection to other meetups? Is that something that's doable and what people are interested in?

I think I'm not going to be able to attend - no transportation, and if I did I'd sadly miss the karaoke (my favorite activity) because the last train out is at 12:45am (and I'd need a ride or to take the bus back to the train station)... but if you're broadcasting, please do post the link. I'd love to watch, and chat if there's a chat room.

What are we doing in terms of music? I'm no musician, but I bet there's at least one local MeFite who may want to perform or DJ. Would we have the capability at the very least?

(ps: very excited to attend! it'll be fun to meet you guys)

Indigo, which train? We're due east of the Metra North line: the Peterson bus goes right to us.

Askiba: we'll have an amp and speakers available, definitely.

By the way, ixnay on the Most Favorited Chicago Post competition. But we're going to have an alternative. Hooray!

I can bring, if needed: another projector, a classroom-style screen, video games, discs of MP3s (both roommates are DJs, I'm a DJ in remission), DVDs of movies, DVDs that are wacky video mix tapes, DVDs of my computer reading classic shitstorm threads in its synth voice, papers, lucha libre masks, Guitar Hero guitars (pending roommate approval), video cameras, a frisbee, microphones (for karaoke etc), etc. Will try to monitor this thread but it's shaping up to be a crazy week workwise so if I do not appear to be replying please hit me up via email (in profile) or chat (also in profile).

If anyone's got a wireless webcam or a camera with a wifi card, that'd be nice. Otherwise I think we're covered for electronics.

Hey folks, in case you're following the action on your recent activity page (like I do), we've got new threads going for specific block party activities - specifically the talent show signup and sockpuppet pageant. Be sure to check them out!

If we still need a webcam, I've got an eee PC that has a 1.3MP webcam built into the lid that does 30fps video at 640x480.

I've got a Wii and a PS3. Only four-player game for the PS3 I have is LittleBigPlanet, and I only have three controllers. (I do have various flavors of Street Fighter. Fighting games are surprisingly awesome for parties, as we found out during the Child's Play fundraiser my company co-sponsored with Midway in December.) I, of course, have Wii Sports for the Wii and two Wii Remotes around here somewhere. I could probably get my hands on a Rock Band set if people wanted that for sure, but time's a-wasting.

my husband is on the fence about attending (he's not a mefite, and we have a lot of stuff to do at the new house). but if someone challenges him to a FPS battle, that might tip the scales.

me, I try to stick to tetris and centipede.

Ooh desjardins, I'm the same way. Give me a puzzle game any day. I used to love games like Bust-a-Move and Super Puzzle Fighter.

I have an old PS2 and Katamari Damacy plus We Love Katamari, which prior to the Wii were probably the go-to party games (IMO). If I end up having to drive to bring the other stuff (I only live a few blocks away - it'd be a damn shame but we'll see) I might throw that in the car too just in case.

The only FPS I have is Gears of War for the 360. Oh, and Resident Evil 4 for the Game Cube (yes, Game Cube).

This is why it's nice to have a MAME cabinet: Tetris, Bust-a-Move, Super Puzzle Fighter, Klax, Columns, etc. all in one place. My personal favorite is Dr. Mario (especially the 2 player versus mode). Unfortunately neither of my MAME machines are very portable so I can't haul them to the party with me.

I have a couple Dreamcasts and will try to get MAME running on one by Saturday. Fingers crossed!

By the way, if anyone wants to play DJ, feel free to bring an iPod or equivalent. We'll have an amp and a 1/8" jack for you.
