I have Apples to Apples, like everyone else!

So, uh, what are we going to do besides eat, drink and chat? Last-minute activity planning goes here!

It seems like people often bring games to these meetups, right? What should we do to break the ice and have some fun?

I'm bringing my video camera. I have a small tripod so I can set this up on a table if people want to record their MeFi confessions or something.

Can do do some jell-o wrestling in one of the venue's empty tanks?
posted by mds35 at 1:27 PM on July 16, 2009

Wait, no---spaghetti wrestling!

That Broken Picture Telephone game went over really well last meetup. I *think* nat said she bringing post-its and pens again.

I'm bringing some small-type games, like Bohnanza and Chez Geek.

I'm pro-wrestling!

I would loooove to play Yahtzee if anyone has it. If not, I could pick up a set.

I have Lunch/Beer Money.

And I could bring some Magic cards...

We could talk about our feelings.

My feelings are black and full of Drudge Skeletons.

I play enough Magic (including the M10 release earlier on Saturday) that I probably will not be in the mood for Magic at Beer Works. Who am I kidding, I would probably play.

I'd just be picking up the five single-color intro decks. I'm still boggling over the return of Lightning Bolt.

Plus, Drinking Magic.

Non-gamey planning question: should we have nametags? I'm bad with names even in small groups. I could bring 'em.

Ooh and maybe some of those foil star stickers that we could use for "favoriting" things. YOU ARE ALL *hic* MY FLAVORITESH!

I think any time someone tells a joke we should spint robocop's wheel, which will tell the crowd whether to laugh uproariously or cut off the joke-teller's hand.
posted by marginaliana at 8:08 AM on July 17, 2009

Well, I put together the wheel last night. We could use it for buying drinks. Whenever someone wants a drink, they spin the wheel:

A result - Go buy a drink!
B result - Buy two drinks!
C result - No drink for you. You can respin in 15 minutes.
D result - You have to buy a drink for someone else. No drink for you for 15 minutes.

Or something like that.

I swear I posted this question in a meetup thread, but now I can't find it.

How do we find each other? Apparently Beerworks is big? Will the servers point us to the Metafilter gang?

I'm going to Target tomorrow afternoon, so if anyone wants me to pick up paper, pens, streamers, garden hoses, etc. just let me know.

Okay, ignignokt and I just picked up some markers and unlined index cards for BPT!
posted by Metroid Baby at 6:48 PM on July 17, 2009

We have the upstairs reserved--I think if you tell them you're looking for the party upstairs they will point the way.
posted by DiscourseMarker at 7:29 PM on July 17, 2009

I might bring a few portable games (bang, set, etc).

Thanks, Metroid Baby and ignignokt, for bringing BPT stuff. I might bring the leftovers I've got from last time too.

Beerworks might be big, but, um, aren't we kind of big too? There's supposed to be quite alot of us.

I do think nametags are a great idea, I also suck at remembering a bunch of new names at once.

Explosion! (what, we're not playing that game anymore?)

I kinda don't want to lug Apples to Apples in my bag on the commuter rail. I mean, I'll do it if I need to, but I was hoping on traveling light.

I'm bringing a plate of beans, and I'm hoping to take pictures of all of you overthinking it.
posted by Horace Rumpole at 10:02 AM on July 18, 2009

I will bring my copy of Apples to Apples. Also others maybe, unsure how much people actually want to play nerdy games as opposed to chat and drink.
posted by explosion at 11:26 AM on July 18, 2009

*Raises hand* I would like to play nerdy games and chat/drink!
posted by Diskeater at 11:50 AM on July 18, 2009

If I make it there, I will probably still be lugging my accordion. I will, however, define "gentleman" by not playing it.

I was going to update with a +1, but then I saw the headcount was 69 and refrained in order to advance the interests of extremely juvenile humor.

Leaving in half an hour or so. Gosh we haven't had a meetup in a while...

What a wild shindig! Strip apples-to-apples had us all nekked in 3 rounds, someone sprayed olive oil on the writhing mass and then the cops broke it all up. Memories, whew!
posted by sammyo at 8:59 PM on July 18, 2009

So much fun. I am upload pics right now, with more to come. Horace Rumpole, however, has to recover from having a little too much beer.
posted by DiscourseMarker at 9:42 PM on July 18, 2009

It was a good time, and we definitely broke the Boston meetup record - easily 60+, don't have an exact headcount, though. Was great to see you all and to meet some new people to.
posted by Ryvar at 10:23 PM on July 18, 2009

too, damnit. Okay, bed.
posted by Ryvar at 10:24 PM on July 18, 2009

Preliminary pics on Flickr. Most of the pictures aren't labeled yet, so if you see yourself, feel free to add your name. More to come tomorrow, maybe. Must sleep now.

Much fun was had. And I even survived the train home with the Jonas Bros fans! More importantly, all of the Jonas Brothers fans made it home intact. They were all up past their bedtimes and pretty subdued, so I was able to resist the urge to throttle every last one of them.

They were all up past their bedtimes and pretty subdued

This was not the experience I had.
