I'm planning on heading down to NO (never been, probably will never go if I don't go now due to my US citizen husband refusing to go over the border) for their meetup but if something comes up and I have to stay here (like the fact that I am lazy about getting my passport) then yeah, I'm up for it. The Annex is a good spot because it's central and on the Bloor line. There was a Flickr meet up at the Dog's Bollocks on Queen West recently. They have 10$ pitchers -- I shit you not.
I'll bring a different camera this time. Maybe something less all up in your grill. posted by chunking express at 6:31 AM on May 6, 2009

The Roy, par exemple? posted by joeclark at 2:42 PM on May 6, 2009
I still think somewhere on the subway line would be nice. The Roy does look like a nice spot, but Queen is such a crap road to travel on by the TTC. Or by car for that matter. posted by chunking express at 2:55 PM on May 6, 2009
Imperial Pub and Library is near Dundas Square, on the Yonge line, so that might diffuse some East/West fights.
In the Annex, of note from the last thread: The Green Room, Victory Cafe, Clintons, Paupers, the Duke of Wellington, or the Bedford Academy. posted by chunking express at 3:13 PM on May 6, 2009

Paupers has a rooftop patio... but a limited beer selection.
Imperial Pub & Library is spacious and could accommodate a large crowd but the food is lacking.
Victory Cafe has a nice, big, patio but we'd have to reserve the whole thing (not that that's a problem :). posted by cranberrymonger at 8:38 PM on May 6, 2009

I am going to say the exact opposite of what I used to say about meetups three years ago - preferably not the Annex, thx.

I’m just sick and tired of Annex dives. And anything downtown. “Downtown” is not a “neutral” location.
The Roy is brand spanking new and you can get there via the 501, 72, or 504, or by driving or biking. It isn’t in Ajax or anything. posted by joeclark at 3:22 PM on May 7, 2009
My preference is for something near the subway, rather than on a bus or streetcar route. It makes it possible to stay later and still catch the last subway back to the middle of nowhere where I live. Otherwise, I have to drive, because there's no way I can afford cab fare all the way from wherever back up to North York and then I can't drink, and let me tell you, some of y'all and your damned cameras would be a lot more tolerable if I were drinking.
I do want to second the suggestion for someplace where we can make a reservation, preferably for our own room. The Bedford Academy meetup was crazy loud and overcrowded, and I didn't half get to talk to most of the people because it was impossible to move. posted by jacquilynne at 4:02 PM on May 7, 2009
I may have to finally attend one of these. I hope you people aren't crazy.
Subway-accessible please. posted by hayvac at 4:54 PM on May 7, 2009
Idea: The Troubadour at 3071 Dundas West. Through a connection, I think we can have the place for the night (providing you people DRINK). There's a patio out back as well. We could have a band or just blast our own beats.
Getting there on the TTC... you'd get off at Dundas West Station and briefly take the 40. Yes, it's a small pain in the ass, but a fuck of a lot better than sharing a space. Having said that, I'll also offer up two things:
a) I'll cover anyone's cab back to Dundas West before the subway closes (no singles please!)
b) Anyone who's left when the bar closes can come back to my nearby house to continue on partying.
Perhaps someone else has connections for a private function? *Remember, it's a Saturday night, and thus much tougher to get one.
...waits for joeclark to freak. posted by gman at 5:32 PM on May 7, 2009
Yeah, okay, I'm open to anything as long as we have a plan to get those of us who need to get back home via the Go back toward something that will bring us to Union late at night. I trust gman's judgment, he's a good guy.
Anyone else needing the Lakeshore West line on the way home? We could exit together perhaps, aiming for the last train? posted by Hildegarde at 5:49 PM on May 7, 2009
I'm a west-ender, so The Troubadour sounds great, but I hope it (or some other large venue we could reserve and take over) could work for people who need to transit in. I'm willing to go just about anywhere.
But this is shaping up to be a very large meetup, and as jacquilynne said, we really do need a lot of space and some control over the noise level of the room.

I think we should probably preorder from the menu, or allow her to do a set menu for us. With that number of people all ordering at the same time, it'll be absolute hell on the kitchen to get it all out. posted by dirtynumbangelboy at 9:14 AM on May 17, 2009

Yeah, I think it might be easier to not worry about food at the place, and just eat before hand.
